Il testo offre un confronto con la tradizione religiosa e letteraria del mito di Ermafrodito, e il ruolo che fu attribuito alla sua immagine nel mondo prima greco e poi romano. In particolare viene proposta la celebre rappresentazione dell'Ermafrodito dormiente, a partire dalla nascita dellarchetipo, conosciuto attraverso alcune copie romane, di cui è offerta una dettagliata sintesi di tutte le sculture conosciute, compresa la presentazione di un importante inedito. Viene inoltre mostrato limpatto che ebbe nel mondo dellarte la scoperta della prima copia, avvenuta a Roma nel cuore del periodo barocco, influenzando successivamente gli artisti di ogni epoca. The text offers a comparison with the religious and literary tradition of the myth of Hermaphroditus, and the role that was attributed to his image in the Greek first and Roman world later on. In particular, the famous representation of the Sleeping Hermaphroditus is proposed, starting from the birth of the archetype, known through some Roman copies, of which a detailed summary of all the known sculptures is presented, including the presentation of an important unreleased item. It is also shown the impact in the art world of the discovery of the first copy, which took place in Rome in the heart of the Baroque period, influencing artists of all ages.
