Descrizione
Spanning the historic corridor from the Upper Adriatic to the Middle Danube, Roma sul Danubio: Da Aquileia a Carnuntum lungo la via dell'ambra provides an exhaustive archaeological re-evaluation of Romanization, trade network dynamics, and cultural exchanges along the Amber Road. Through a multidisciplinary synthesis incorporating recent field acquisitions, environmental surveys, and grave-good analyses, the volume traces the evolution of key urban centers—specifically Aquileia and Carnuntum—from pre-Roman Indigenous settlements into vital administrative and commercial nodes. The contributed studies detail the complex interplay between Mediterranean material culture and trans-Danubian Germanic populations, particularly the Marcomanni and Quadi. Particular emphasis is placed on boundary commerce, the structural adaptation of native sites, militarized Limes infrastructure, and the socio-political transformations preceding and following the Marcomannic Wars. Ultimately, the work redefines the Danube not merely as an imperial frontier, but as a dynamic locus of long-term cultural integration and shared European heritage.
